A very interesting, as well as important, meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in the Methodist school-room on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Mowlem, president of the Palmerston North Union, and Mrs Laban, also of Palmerston N., were present. The election of officers resulted as follows : President, Mrs Chrichton ; vice presidents, Mrs Stiles and Mrs Huntley ; secretary, Miss Coatsworth; superintendent of temperance hygiene instruction, Miss Hopper; superintendent of Maori work, Mrs Thompson. It was proposed that Mrs Mowlem be proxy at the coming convention in Dunedin.

During the meeting it was decided that Mr G. A. Brandstater be asked to give a lecture ou temperance hygiene and health at the Coronation Hall on Monday night. The next meeting was arranged for the first Thursday in March.
