BOWLING.

Yesterday afternoon the long promised visit by the Shannon Bowling Club eventuated, 16 bowlers, including a challenge team for the Toms Ferns, arrived. Unfortuuately, a high westerly wind was blowing across the greens which prevented any fine play, but under the circumstances, some very good games were contested and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. A fair attendance of ladies added colour to the scene. Owing to a misunderstanding, Foston were two men short in one rink and the game was unfortunately delayed. There is no doubt that visits between neighbouring clubs are of great benefit in stirring up friendly rivalry and engendering good fellowship aud feeling among bowlers. There were numerous commendatory remarks passed upon the condition of the green, and caretaker Spring deserves great credit in this connection.

The Shannon Bowling Club intend holding a tournament on the iSth March, and they extend a hearty invitation to the local bowlers to be present. It is to be hoped that we will be able to return the compliment Shannon paid us yesterda} 7 , oy sending over a large contingent on that date. Except on one rink the local players won all their games. The rink skipped by Munro going down to Mitchell’s team by three points. This game was very closely contested right through and it was fine play by Mitchell who rescued the game by cutting out the jack and laying two on the axst head. The Ferns team, locally known as the “ luvincibles,” were all out to win and the finish of the game saw them victors by ten points. Cheers for the winners and the losers and a tiger tor the ladies brought a very enjoyable aiternoon to a close.
