BARTON BROS.’ CIRCUS
This well known and popular circus is to open in F'oxton on Saturday night. The circus is of considerable magnitude, it comprises some 70 horses and ponies, and 45 performers. English, American and Continental stars, all new to New Zealand, all of whom have been recently engaged by Captain F. Barton for the present tour. Perhaps the best item of 32 acts is supplied by the Roman Gladiators presenting the greatest and most sensational athletic acts of modern times, “The Bridge of Death.” Mounier and Franz will form themselves into a human bridge and allow a 30cwt. motor car with 7 passengers in it to pass over their prostrate bodies, a tremendous and daring feat of strength. Other performers include the Waldolf family, Miss Mena Val, Miss Ruby French. Alicia and Tasman, the two jiu jitsu experts in Japanese wrestling. The circus will arrive in the morning and parade the town, enlivened by the brass band of ten players. Popular city prices will be charged, viz., 2s and 3S.
PICTURE SHOW. Special attractions for Saturday night, dramas, comics, scenics oi special merit. “John Halifiax Gentleman,” an interpretation of Craik's most popular work. “ Julia Colonna ” another powerful drama that goes with a swing. “Disreputable Mr Regan” and “Twin Towers” are also splendidly exciting subjects. A tip top comic, “ Florae Goes to a Boarding School,” her pranks and capers upset the whole school, and Miss Florrie is just in her element. The popular “ Pathe Gazette, is again to the fore with a host ot interesting subjects. Two lovely scenic films “ Italian Cnisassieurs ” and beautiful “Lake Verbano ” need no description, they speak lor themselves, Plenty of fun and merriment will be lound in the following comics, “ Tweedledum’s Rescuers,” “ Tommy’s Cheap
Clothes,” and last but by no means least, ‘‘Swank Buys a Motor Bike.” The trials and troubles of poor Swank and his terrible motor bike, is an entertainment all of its own. Everyone should see this film, it is worth it. The new dynamo lor the engine at the Town Hall has been lauded in Auckland and may arrive here at any time, thus making the pictures still brighter and steadier.
