It is reported on good authority that Lord Islington, Governor of the Dominion, is to occupy “Highden,” the beautiful residence of Mrs W. W. Johnston, at Avvahuri, for a term. Mrs Johnston will shortly take a voyage to the Old Country. Three suicides by drinking lysol occurred in Sydney on Tuesday last. Superintendent A. H. Sherwood, Acting-Inspector-Gen-eral of the Police, in commenting on the large number of suicides from lysol, said it was surprising that so many occurred, considering the excrutiating torture experienced by the victims.

The Harvest Festival was held at All Saints’ Church on Sunday last, the services being well attended. At the evening service, the vicar of Palmerston (Rev H. C. Rosher) preached a powerful sermon, and was listened to with great attention. The fruit and vegetables have been forwarded to St. Mary's Home, Karori. Rev. T. R. R. Woolloxall, of Ashburton, states most positively that during the last election there were dead people who voted. He did not know how they did it. A scrutineer challenged a man who had been dead two years, but he managed to get his papers and vote. Even persons who were in the Old Country and Australia had voted. The school committee desire to thank the following for gifts, etc., for the annual picnic ; Mesdames Henderson and Cuuninghame, small case of chocolates in fancy boxes and toys, lollies from Mr C. T. Easton, C. Collins, A. R. Osborne, P. Hennessy and Co., J. Walls, Chung Wah, Cash Trading Company, biscuits. We will acknowledge money contributions in our next issue.
