ENTERTAINMENTS.
PICTURE SHOW. The picture show for to-morrow night is a real good one. A glance at the programme printed elsewhere will convince everyone that they are going to have a splendid entertainment on Wednesday evening. “On the Edge of the Desert ” is an intensely interesting drama of the popular type. Other dramas will be “ The Heart of an Actress,” a very human and appealing story, also ‘‘The Big Scoop ” and the “ The Drunkard’s Reformation.” A splendid scenic film with glorious water effects entitled ‘‘ The Beautiful Falls of Schwarzbach ” will be well worth seeing. A most unusual film which should create a great deal of attraction is “ The Diver,” showing the great dangers and deadly risks daily laced by these men. ‘‘The Pathe Gazette, 141,” as usual will be full of interest.
.There are four real good comics of a standard in keeping with the rest of the programme. ”An Enemy of the Dust” will cause roars of laughter and so will ” Kelly Visits the Country,” 11 Our Intrepid Correspondent ” and ‘‘ A Lottery Ticket, 66.” The programme for to-morrow night is quite as good as any programme ever screened on a Saturday night, and the business people should not miss the opportunity of spending a pleasant evening. BARTON BROS’. CIRCUS. Barton’s Circus, after an extended tour in the South, is billed to show at Foxton on Saturday, February 24th, for one night only. The circus is of considerable magnitude, and comprises some seventy horses and forty-five performers. To transport the outfit, eighteen waggons are used, while its parades and performances are enlivened by its brass band of ten players.
In addition to the usual circus feats and star turns, a number ot sensational items are provided. One of these is termed the “Bridge of Death,” in which the strong men, Mounier and Franz, lie on the ground, their bodies supporting the bridge consisting of two planks, over which a 40-h.p. motor car is driven. The clowns, Sandy and Ginger, give a fine exhibition of tumbling in their comic hurdling act. Tybell and Pedro give an exciting performance on the horizontal bars, while L,a Belle Quida, on a steel cord, and Miss Margarette in her equestrian work, display great skill and courage. A free attraction is to be provided prior to the circus commencing, when outside the huge marquee Dare-Devil Tybell will perform what is termed “the slide for life.” a sheer drop, it is stated, of 100 ft. suspended only by his teeth.
Mr Bradley, touring manager, writes to say that the proprietary is bringing along the full circus, and will present the same programme as was given in Wellington recently.
