MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
In reference to the deviation of the Foxton Beach road, it was decided to inform the Foxton Borough Council that the money available will not allow anything to be spent on the proposed deviation, the extra cost being estimated at £55. The matter will be dealt with when the reply ot the Borough Council as to what Foxton will contribute is leceived.
Messrs Greig, Spiers, J. Walker and Foster to be notified of damage done by them to roads by heavy traffic. The overseer reported :—“Awahou Riding.—Cr Barber and I made an inspection of the FoxtonShannon road with reference to the heavy traffic going along a portion of this road from a flax mill worked by .Mr Greig. The loads to and from this mill are extremely heavy for this road, and are doing a considerable amount of damage to that portion ot the FoxtonShannon road between the Foxton Borough boundary and Mr Greig’s flax mill. The maintenance metal required this year to put the road in order will exceed the amount put on this road in any previous year. As proot of the damage being done by the heavy traffic from the flaxtnill mentioned, one only needs to travel on the other end of the road which is not so much used for heavy traffic. During the past month Mr C. Martin has made fair progress with his formation and metalling contract on the Foxtou Beach road. I have put a man on to clean out a portion of the Wakapuni drain as far up as the concrete culvert.
“ Whirokiuo Sub-division. — During the month a slip came down in the cutting ol No. 2 line, and bad to be carted away and the bank fascined. It would be advisable to clay the rough metal in the cutting opposite Mr J. Robinson’s. I would also recommend the Council to clean out the drains in this district before the winter sets in. It will be advisable to call tenders for the balance of the metalling contract for the next meeting.
“Tramway report. —A good deal of work has been done on the 281 b track during the past mouth in the shape of taking out damaged rails, fish plates and bolts. I have had the crossing fixed up at Rosina line, which was not very safe. We are now laying down the 401 b rails at Harris’s hill. The bridge opposite Mr Grace’s has been giving us some trouble and one pier had to be pulled down and adjusted.”
