THE COMMERCIAL TRUSTS ACT.
CASE PENDING AGAINST
SUGAR COMPANY,
The Hi at c«=>e under the Commercial Trusts Act, passed by the Government in 19x0, has been commenced against the Colonial Sugar Company for an alleged breach of the Act, and also against several of the leading merchants of Wellington. These proceedings are based upon an alleged arrangement whereby it is stated that the price of sugar is increased by methods which amount to a monopoly within the meaning of the Act. The case, which will no doubt be fully litigated, will afford a good illustration of the working of the trust legislation, and will be watched with the keenest public interest, both on account of the novelty of such proceedings in New Zealand, and on account of the great importance the price ot sugar is to every person m this country.
