RACING.

Counterfeit and Masterpiece have been scratched for the Wellington Cup. The nominations received this year by the Foxton Racing Club are seven less than were received for the previous year’s meeting. When it is taken into consideration, however, that last year the nominations constituted a record in the history of the Club, it will be seen that this year’s are indeed very satisfactory. The acceptances for the first day’s events close with the secretary at nine o’clock to-night, as do also nomi nations for the Trial Stakes (first day) and Maiden Scurry (second day). From present indications, it is believed that tne acceptances this year will exceed those of any previous year.

After the declaration of second forfeits, the following horses remain in the Wellington Stakes, of 500 sovs., for two and three-year-olds, weigh t-for-age (five furlongs) to be run at the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting : Elevator, Submersion, Imagination, br f by Martian —■ Cuiralba, Raugiata, Obligant, Lady Georgia, b f by Hierarch— Crecy, Autumuus, Scottish Star, Winning Way, ch f by Field Battery —St. Winifred, Glad Tidings, g by St. Ambrose —Maud, Canute, Sinapis, Valido, Beldame, Glade, Rangapai, May Dalrymple, Ermengarde, br f by Bouiform — Leonore, Prince Soult, Massilla and Peroneal.
