On New Year’s Day a rink from the local club travelled to Palmerston North to take part in the competition for the Toms Ferns, which was played on the Palmerston Club’s green. The con* ditious of this competion are that the ieins shall be played for every New Year’s Day at Palmerston North, by rinks from any Club within a certain distance of Palmerston. Duriug the season any club cau challenge the holders. Last New Year’s Day the trophies were won by Levin, but subsequently Foxton wrested them from the holders, and after successfully defending them against a number of challenges eventually succumbed to Otak), who held them until the end of the season. Ou Monday the only teams uomiuated were from Shannon and Foxtou, and it was only necessary to play two out of the three rounds, as Foxton won the first two rather easily. The lollowiug are the scores. — FOXTON SHANNON Spring Callagbau Whibley Fargber Clemett Hauseu Rlmiuer (s). 27 Bromley (s). 3 in the second game, which resulted iu a win lor Foxtou by 14 folio, Shannon was represeuled by Callaghan, Hausen, Bromley and Quarrie (s), A challenge was issued by a local riuk to the holders, which, however, has been declined until the return match with Shannon is played next Wednesday. | A very exciting game is anticipated and there should be a good attendance of the public to watch the match.
