The triai of the Chicago meat packers or charges of violating the anti-tiust laws is proceeding. Details revealed during the hearing show that in 1902 a plan was arranged to merge the Armour, Swift, and Morris interests with a view of securing the control of the United Stales meal industry. Capital totalling was involved.
The plan was abandoned as being unworkable at that time.
ANOTHKR BIG COMBINE
London, December 28
Preliminary details are published of an Americaii-Canadian syndicate, with Mr Mnrdo McKenzie as president, to establish at Topaulo, in Brazil, the largest beef project in the world. Nine million acres ol laud have been acquired there, with the intention to raise and export chilled meat to Europe. The beef syndicate in combination with a steamship syndicate, hopes ultimately to open the British and German markets to live cattle, and they are purchasing at the outset the best strains of ITereford and Durham cattle to improve the South American stock.
