FIRE AT SANATORIUM.

BEAZE AT CAMBRIDGE.

Auckland, Dec. 27.

An exciting lire occurred at the Cambridge Sanatorium at twelve o’clock last night. The night nurse discovered a block ot buildings, comprising the harness-room, stables and buggt shed (adjacent to the main iug) on fire. Although the place was burning fiercely i)r Eewis made great efforts to prevent the fire spreading. The power-house, containing a thousand pounds’ worth of machinery, was only saved through plucky work on the roof with buckets of water and extinguishers. The absence of wind probably saved 'the main block. Five vehicles and most of the harness were saved by the staff at great risk. A large quantity of stores was destroyed, including six thousand picked eggs. Everyone behaved admirably, and everything was done to save other buildings. The fire brought down the electric wires and cut off the light throughout the sanatorium. There were no horses iu the stables at the time. No cause is assigned for the outbreak.
