NEW ZEALAND'S CROPS.
Particulars of the areas sown with grain and root crops this season have been compiled by the Department of Agriculture by means ot returns obtained through the post. They are published in the Gazette, with au introductory statement that they can be accepted as a fairly accurate estimate ot the areas under the respective crops. 'The main items are as iollows :

Wheat ... ... 215,528 Oats 403,668 Barley 31.644 Maize ... ... 6,094 Peas 19,94 b Potatoes ... ... 28,248 Turnips 440,202 Mangolds ... ... 19,764 Rape ... ... 213,691 The areas under crop in Wellington province comprise : Wheat, 3650 ; oats, 23,680 ; barley, 2087 ; potatoes, 2423 ; turnips, 25,789 ; rape, 33,442 acres, and smaller areas 01 grasses and todder plants.
