John Pearce, who, since the recent breach of promise case, has been known as the man with the “leaky heart,’’ has appeared in the role of a bankrupt. At a meeting of his creditors he staled that his liabilities were ,£3lB 12s sd, and his assets £2O 4s yd, a result of the action lor breach ol promise of marriage brought by Miss Diuoii, whom the Court awarded ,£270 damages and costs ,£4B 12s 3d. This amount was still owing, and Miss Uiaon was his only creditor. He had offered Miss Diuon in settlement of the Court’s award, but she had declined to accept it.
Bankrupt was closely questioned as to a certain deed ol trust in which he held an interest with other members of his family, and the assignee agreed to the creditor’s request to put in a claim for one-third of the trust property, so that it might be contested in the Supreme Court.
