BATTLE OF. ARMAGEDDON.
The Adventist service at their mission tent was well attended on Sunday evening, when the subject, “ The Battle of Armageddon,” was presented. The speaker, Mr Weslerman, took his text (rom Revelation xvi., ifi, whence comes the name “ Armageddon.” Referring to the prophecies of Jeremiah iv., 19 —26, aud Joel iii., g —l 6. he showed how the Scriptures teach that a time would come when vast preparations for war would be iu the making, aud that this would be so not only among the civilised nations of the world, but also among the heathen nations, as Japan and China. Figures were presented revealing the enormous increase in naval aud army expenditures during the last fifty years, and quotations read from speeches by such men as Lord Rosebery and Sir Edward Grey concerning the present maddening preparations for war. From the closing verses of Daniel xi., the speaker told how the Turk ‘had been helped in the past by the Powers or Europe to sustain her sovereignty on the Continent, aud that soon these powers would leave her to her fate. She would be driven from her seat iu Constantinople, and would settle about Jerusalem. She would theu be dried up (Rev. xvi., 12) and the way be prepared for the gathering of the nations in the Valley ot Jehoshaphat. He concluded by saying that at that time Christ would come aud destroy the nations, aud usher iu his kingdom of righteousnes (Rev. xviiii., ix—2l, Jer. xxv., 30—33). Good attention was paid, many expressing their appreciation of the subject preseutecl.
