The vital statistics for Foxton for November are births, 3 ; marriages, 1 ; deaths nil. The services in St. Mary’s Church to-morrow will be conducted at 8.30 a.m. by the Rev Father Kelly. The valedictory social to Mr K. Newman, M.P., will take place in the Coronation Hall supper room on Monday next at 5.30 p.m. An invitation is extended to all townspeople to attend.

The friends of Mr Wm. Ross will regret to learn that he is in a private hospital in Auckland, and has had to undergo two serious operations. His condition is causing the family some anxiety. An open air meeting will be held in Main Street at 7 o’clock to-night when addresses on NoDiceuse and National Prohibition will be delivered by Messrs T. G. Vincent and Whibley. Mr Jas, Y. Henry, of Pahiatua, paid a brief visit to Foxtou yesterday after an absence of 37 years. He says the place has changed almost beyond recognition and had the appearance of being a very progressive township. There was a very good attendance at the Coronation Hall last night, when the Traus-Oceauic Entertainers made their first appearance before a Foxton audience. A very diversified programme was submitted, and well received by those present.

To-morrow is Advent Sunday aud the services in All Saints’ Church will be : 8 a.m. lioly Communion, 11 a.m. matins aud Holy Communion, 7 p.m. evensong and sermon. Advent Sunday is the first day of the ecclesiastical year and the beginning of the penitential season before Christmas. An informal meeting of the executive committee of the Foxion Presbyterian charge was held at Oroua Bridge yesterday. The interim moderator, Rev Mr McKenzie, presided. Matters connected with the call of a minister were discussed and congregational meetings will be held as follows ; Foxton Dec. 18th, Oroua Bridge lylh, Tiakilahuna 20th aud Glen Oroua 21st.

Aitken, late of Foxton, into the charge there rendered vacant by the resignation last June of the Rev B. J. Westbrooke. Though the weather had been very inclement, the attendance of the congregation was good. Rev A. Begg presided and inducted the new minister. The Rev F. Rule preached a very suitable sermon. The Rev G. B. Inglis addressed the minister alter the prescribed questions had been put and satisfactorily answered. The Rev Charles Murray addressed the congregation on their daties towards their new pastor. A welcome social was tendered in the evening/’ New Zealand is making headway in spite of its professional politicians ; not because of them. Vote for Byron Brown.*

The services in the local Methodist Church to-morrow, will be conducted in the morning by the Rev. T. Coatsworlh, and in the evening by Mr G. Huntley. Mr H. Smith will preach at Himatangi at 7.30 p.m., and the Rev. T. Coatsworth will conduct service at the Beach at 7 p.m.

Foxton trained horses met with a fair amount of success at the recent Bedding meeting. Mr A, M. Wright won the Maiden Scurry with Laddo, Puketotara ran second in the Hack Hurdles first day, with Mr Messeua’s Waipaku third and Stevens filled third place in the Hack Welter on the concluding day of the meeting.
