THE BEACH ROAD

A START MADE

Yesterday morning, representatives of the Foxton Borough Council and Manawatu County Council, accompanied by the Couuty Clerk and County Fjugineer, went over the route of the proposed Beach road. Their v'sit to the vicinity was more particularly to consider a request made by the residents at the Heads that a slight deviation on what was originally decided upon should be made. Alter consideration, however, it was decided to adhere to the original route, as it led right on to the deep water where it is probable that eventually a pier will be erected. Further, if the deviation asked for ,vere made it would mean adding to the cost of the road, and as the contract price, is right up to the amount allowed for same, this request could not be entertained.

The contractor for the work, Mr Martin, made a commencement with the formation at the Beach end to-day. He has five 4-horse teams engaged in the work. The contract time for completing the job is the end of February.
