At a public meeting addressed iu the Mastertou Town Hall touigni by the Rev. T. S. Gray, of Christchurch, a resolution alleged to have been passed by business men to the effect that No-Ricense iu Mastertou had been a failure was traversed by the chairman and Mr Gray. The names of the persons responsible tor the resolution were read from the platform, and u was. asserted that five out of the eight of the signatories were tuose of persons interested hnanciaiiy and otherwise in the trade.
Al a meeting of the Masterton Borough Council to-night, the lollowiug resolution was carried : “ That this Council emphatically protests against tne uulair and malicious attempts made by a section ot the public, vide Evening Bost advertisement under date .November 2, to damage the credit of the town, sucn statements being contrary to lact, and further, we arc satisfied mat the business people iccoguise that financially and commercially Masterton never held a firmer position."
