WHAT ABOUT MAINE?
The unblushing lying of the liquor traffic all over the world was never so openly demonstrated as in the cables sent by Liquor Agents regarding Maine. These Liquor cables, as we pointed out in last issue, came from New York, and not from Maine. There was a petition against the poll, and the result of this was not to be known till Oct. qth. Yet, on Oct. 7th we had another lying cable from New York to the effect that Prohibition had been defeated. It was not till Oct. nth or I2lh that we heard directly from Maine that Prohibition had been retained by over 700 votes. While these Liquor cables were being published, the New Zealand Liquor Crowd were almost frantic with delight. They published statements about Maine that can only be described as; gross exaggerations. Now they are wishing they had not spoken. It must be a pretty rotten business when they go to the expense to cable lies, that are sure to be exposed in a few days. Now, whenever they come out with their usual stories, people will at once ask : Is this another liquor Maine yarn.
