CANT.
“ Protect the rising generation. Youths under 21 in Licensed area? are Prohibited by Act of Parliament. In Prohibited areas the sly-grog seller will supply anybody irrespective of age or sex.” — Breivers' Advt., 1911. We can only describe this as a mixture of cant and misrepresentation. A. Fancy the Liquor Business wanting to protect the rising generation ! Why, last year they turned out 7000 first convictions for drunkenness! B. Youths under 21 arc not prohibited from drinking, they are only prohibited from being served at the open bar. C. In Prohibited areas the sly-grog seller is also prohibited by Act of Parliament. He is a vanishing quantity. In the older NoLicense districts he cannot be found even with Sam Weller’s patent double million magnifyin’ gas microscopes of hextra power,” thanks to the rigorous administration of the No-License law. D. In Licensed areas the Licensee supplies anybody irrespective of sex. The only way to protect the rising generation is to vote out the Drink Business that is out after your money, and doesn’t care whether Drunkards increase by 1000 each year or not, so long as it can make money. Vote it out. Strike out the Top Line on Each Paper.
