The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, November 2, 1911. LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The vital statistics for Foxton for October are;—Births, 11 ; marriages 3 ; deaths 5. Miss Honore received the prize as holder of the lucky admission ticket at last Saturday’s Carnival. Choir practice will take place in All Saints’ Church to-night at 7.30 instead of Friday owing to the Show. Mr W. H. Field has had to cancel his meetings for the present owing to the serious illness of his father at Wanganui.

The All Saints' Ladies Guild will hold a Garden Parly at the vicariage on Dec. 6th. Prior to this function a “gift afternoon ’’ will be held at the residence of Mrs A. S. Easton on Nov. 15th. The electoral roll may be inspected at the local Post Office, Mr Hennessy’s store and the office of this paper, also at Mr Gibbs’ flaxmill. It is not yet too late to get enrolled on the supplementary. If I knew I were to die to-morrow, nevertheless I would plant a tree today. Vote fur Byrun Brown."

Messrs J. G. Wilson, G. Kendall and J. K. Hornblow have been elected to represent the Mauawatu County and Foxton Borough on the Palmerston North District Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

The body of Leslie Robert, aged iS, one of the victims of the recent boating fatality at the Mauavvalu Heads was found yesterday washed up on the Otaki Beach. All the bodies of the eight victims have now been recovered.

A casual glance at the main electoral roll, discloses the fact that there are numbers of people whose names appear thereon who have either “ shuffled off this mortal coil,” or left the district and others again whose names are doubled.

At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the Registrar of Dogs proceeded against George Lee for failing to register a dog. The defendant did not appear, and after hearing the Registrar’s evidence the Magistrate inflicted a fine of is, with costs 12s, and was ordered to pay the registration fee of lOS.

In conversation with Mr A. F. Chamberlain, who has recently taken over Mr C. F. Johnston’s coach and carrying business, he informed us that local business people would effect a saving in freight by having their goods from Wellington railed to Levin and carried from there to Foxton instead of having them railed right round via Longburn. Mr Chamberlain will be pleased to furnish quotations for carting from Levin upon application. The capacity of Mr M. Perreau’s tea rooms was strained to its utmost limit on Monday afternoon, when the Foxton ladies met together to select a committee to run the Citizens Ball on the x 7Lh inst. A very strong committee was elected, Mrs Perreau kindly providing afternoon tea. This ball gives promise of being a great success as the tickets are selling very quickly. The proceeds from the ball are to be donated to the Palmerston North Hospital.
