ENTERTAINMENTS.

the carnival

Preparations are well forward for the carnival to be held in the Coronation Hall on Friday next. The children's flower pageant and Maypole should be a great attraction. The little ones will be charmingly attired, and they are well trained in the various parts they are to sustain. Then there will lie the ever-green Punch and Judy show, comic art gallery, shooting gallery, plain and fancy goods stall, in charge of Mesdames Parkes, Maudl, Aitkeu, Renton and Miss Wrigley ; produce stall, Mrs], Ross and Mrs Rough; sweets stall, Mrs Adams and Miss Ross ; Christmas tree and bran tub, Miss Speirs and Mr E. Huntley ; the tea-room will be supervised by Mesdames Alex. Ross, Hornblow, Claris, Carter, Speirs, Woodham, McKwen, and Misses Millar and Littlejohn. A special feature of the carnival will also be the entertainment to be provided by Mr Wood, of Palmerston North, whose sleight of hand and illusions are alone worth the price of admission. The entertainment is organised to wipe oil the debt on the building fund. MUNICIPAL PICTURES. The Foxtou Borough Council’s new venture, Municipal Pictures, was launched on Saturday night, and if the attendance at the Coronation Town Hall on this occasion is a criterion of the support that is to be accorded the Council’s weekly picture show, the success of the venture is assured. On Saturday night practically the whole of the seats in the dress circle were occupied, the pit was well patronised and there were a number in the stalls.

The pictures screened were good ana absolutely tree from dicker. A very line film depicting New Zealand scenery was that ot the Either Gorge and other West Coast scenes. The programme submitted included scenic, comic and dramatic films and met with the entire approbation ol the latge audience.

It is safe to assume that it the pictures to be shown at future shows are equal to those of Saturday night the Council will receive the hearty support of the public. TO-MORROW NIG FIT. To-morrow night there will be another fine scries ot pictures presented at the Coronation Town Hall, among them a fine scenic film of a trip up Mont Blanc, an interesting one ot the copper industry in Spain, and an instructive one in natural history, the cameleon. In addition to the above there are several films of drama, comics and very comic, and if you want a good laugh you can get it at the picture show tomorrow night.
