FANCY DRESS BALL.
The children’s Coronation Floral, Plain and Fancy Dress Ball was held in the Coronation Town Hall last night, and was a most successful function.
A large number of children attended in anticipation of a good time, and as the result of the completeness of the arrangements, their hopes were realised to fullest extent. The spectacle, as viewed from the dress-circle, was picturesque, the wide variety of fancy dresses constantly intermixing gave the view a peculiar fascination to the onlooker. The proceedings commenced with a polka, the Grand March being postponed until the second item in order to allow all those attending to take part. Adults willingly assisted the children through the steps of the various dances, and with these adults included, one hundred and seventeen couples look part in the Grand' March. Soft drinks were provided in abundance. The range of fancy dresses was wide and original, including “Cupid,” “ Plyacinth,” and other novel attire. A plentiful and tasty supper was provided by the committee, and was much appreciated by the children and adults.
The committee responsible for this successful entertainment tendered to the children, free of charge, were Mesdames George Coley, W. K. Barber, 'R. H. Barber, Bock, Gibbs, John Robinson, C. Collins, Edwards, F. Easton, Gower, Bert Austin, Fraser, Clemetc, Cleland, Misses A. Collins, Symons, and Messrs Hennessy, Syd. Easton, and W. S. Stewart, headed by Mrs W. S Stewart as chairwoman of the committee, and the secretaries Mesdames Barber senr., and Easton.
The music was gratuitously supplied by Misses JL,. and H. Cook and A. Collins. Mr C. H. Collins supervised the Grand March.
The committee express their gratitude to Messrs Munro, Gray, White, I/umsden, and Cleland for cordials donated, Mr Bowe senr.
