Drink and Progress
“The most progressive nations of the world are its most moderate drinkers.” —Liquor circular of 1911.
It is still more true that the most progressive inventors and thinkers and directors of the world to-day are not drinkers at all, or else discourage drinking altogether. Thos. Edison said that he had more use for his brains than be dulled with intoxicants. He is a total abstainer'.
Captain Carver the champion rifle shot of America once said, “ If I were to drink, I could not shoot.” The German Emperor said that the next naval fight would be won by the nation having the steadiest nerves. He therefore would discourage the use of alcohol.
The true version of the above Brewers statement runs like this: “The most progressive nations of the world are in the forefront in spite of what drink does to keep them hack.
