THE GREAT REFORM.

[Published by*Arrangement.]

A. S. Malcolm, M.P., at Palmerston North.

ADDRESS ON NO-LICENSE IN

CLUTHA

The Palmerston papers have given excellent reports of Mr Malcolm’s address on the success of No-License in Cluiha. We recommend the report to the attention or our readers The Licensed Victualler’s Association seem to be convulsed with holy indignation that Mr Malcolm should claim a 65 per cent, majority for No-License in Clutha at last election They would point out in very large letters that even this 65 per cent, does not constitute a bare majority of the electors on the roll.

But while this is so, it is owing to the fact that there was a small poll, since Mr Malcolm was to all intents and purposes unopposed. On the other hand the 981 votes for restoration makes an even smaller showing on the same basis. It is only 19.3 per cent, of the electors that thought it worth their while to vote for Restoration of Licenses.

The Liquor Party did not poll 20 per cent, of the electors on the roll. Cheer up Liquor Traffic! You’ll soon be dean,
