SHOCKING RAILWAY FATALITY.
Wellington, This Day
A horrible fatality occurred on the railway line near the Thorndon Esplanade crossing about 8.30 o’clock last evening, a woman being run over by the 8.3 p.m. train from Lower Hutt and cut and mangled into an unrecognisable mass.
At the spot where the accident occurred there is very little light, and the wind last night was blowing in irregular gusts. The train was running on the seaward line, next to the fence enclosing the esplanade. The remains, which are quite unrecognisable, were touud about thirty yards from the cattle-stop, and were conveyed to the morgue. Practically the only clue to identity which the police had last evening was that the woman was wearing a black skirt.
An inquest will be opened today.
