BOROUGH COUNCIL.
SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the Foxtou Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night to consider applications for the position of caretaker of the Town Hall; receive tenders for selling sweets and for pianist for picture show. There were present; His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.) and Crs. Adams, Chrystall, Coley, Greig, Gibbs, Stewart and Speirs. Fifteen applications were received for the position of caretaker. After considerable discussion it was decided on the motion of Cr Greig, seconded by Cr Adams, that Mr Henry McArtney be appointed caretaker at a salary of £6 2s per calendar month.
Three applications were received for the position of pianist, but as the prices asked were considered too high, no tender was accepted. For the right to sell sweets in the hall there were two applicants. It was not clear whether the ap plicants understood that this right referred only to municipal entertainments aud did not apply to travelling companies. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Adams seconded by Cr Greig, that the highest tender for selling sweets be accepted, to apply to municipal entertainments only; not more than two admission tickets to be supplied, to be used by sellers only. As the dynamo to be erected at the hall was not due for some time it was decided that Mr Kirkland be instructed to secure the hire of dynamo offered to the Council from Auckland at 15s per week. The question ot utilising the outside walls of the hall for advertising purposes was brought up, and on the motion of Cr Speirs seconded by Cr Gibbs, it was decided that the Hall Committee be empowered to receive tenders for advertising on outside of hall and to accept same if satisfactory.
