MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the Board’s office on Friday' evening. Present : —Messrs B. G. Gower (chairman), F. S. Easton, O. R. Robinson and W. S. Carter. The Clerk reported the amount to credit of the loan account at geneial account ,£sl its 7d ; the No. 3 account stood 5s gd at debit. Since last meeting the sum of ns 6d had been collected and placed to credit. The overseer reported on the progress of the work during the month and also that Saunders’ drain was four chains short of the boundary. Correspondence was read from Mr T. Ward, the Board’s engineer, agreeing to terminate the present arrangement and accept appointment as consulting engineer as suggested by the Board, on condition that the width of drain Is not reduced until end of Government drain is reached.

From the Moutoa Estate, asking that care be taken to prevent fires in swamp being caused from the crane, and notifying that they would hold the Board responsible for any damage done in this connection. —The Clerk reported that lie had sent a notification to the overseer in respect to this matter. From the Railway Department, notifying that the Board would be held responsible for any damage to the crane and grab other than ordinary wear and tear. —The Clerk was instructed to write to the Railway Department pointing out the amount that the Board had already expended on maintenance in connection with the crane.

From Mr K. Kennedy, asking that he have charge of the mechanical part of plant and that he be paid a half day's wages when steam was got up and no work done. —Consideration of this letter was held over until next meeting, which .Mr Kennedy will be asked to attend. Accounts amounting to /'l7 7s gd were passed for payment against loan account and ,£47 16s gd against general account.

Attention was called to the fact that watercress was blocking the Kari Kari and other drains, and Mr Easton was asked to get the matter attended to. The matter of Sauuders’ connection, reported on by the overseer, was left over until the general drain clearing period.
