COMMITTEE’S RETORT
The following is the Committee’s report: — “Your Committee have pleasure in presenting their first annual report, and consider, in face of the heavy initial expenses in starting the green, mat our position is very satisfactory. Our assets are ,£391 10s, liabilities 12S nd. It may interest members to know that the total expenditure under all heads to date is ,£461 9s 3d. The past season was most enjoyable and successful. For a club of beginners we did well, in that we won the Mauawatu Ferns from Levin, aud successfully defended them against Terrace Fnd and Shannon, finally succumbing to Otaki. We narrowly missed bringing back the Kinniburg Feathers from Levin, and hope to do better next lime. The club contests were very keen, Mr Stunell winning the pair of bowls and Messrs Stunell, Clemett, Woods aud Hennessy the Feathers. Several lady players graced our green, and proved themselves quite expert at the game. During the winter two croquet courts have been laid down, and much pleasure is anticipated therefrom. The Committee wish to tender their most hearty thanks to the ladies who so kindly provided afternoon tea under many difficulties, aud also for their untiring efforts on behalf of the Club. They are now engaged in organising a carnival to raise funds for the erection of a pavilion, and we cau only hope the gentlemen will rise to the occasion and render every assistance. In this matter your Committee would recommend that the question of having the pavilion erected at once receive consideration. Various members have been most generous in their douatious aud trophies to the Club, and are accorded our hearty thanks. In conclusion, we wish to express our pleasure in the way our caretaker, Mr Spring, has looked after the ground. He has put his heart into his work, aud the place is rapidly becoming a beauty spot. With a membeiship of 53, aud the green in fine order, our coming season promises well.”
