NEW POSTAGE STAMP.

During the course of a speech at the letter carriers’ dinner last Saturday night, Sir Joseph Ward said he had interviewed Mr Bertram McKennal in London and the eminent Australian sculptor bad designed a new postage stamp for New Zealand. He (Sir Joseph), had submitted two sets of specimens to the King —it was a matter of courtesy to do this when the King’s head was to be on the postage stamp —and the King had approved one of the sets. The accepted copy had been handed over to Mr D. Robertson, secretary of the department, and the stamps were to be printed forthwith. He thought the new stamp would be found to be a very nice one indeed.
