In the House on Tuesday Mr Massey took the opportunity of welcoming Sir Joseph Ward back to New Zealand but regretted that he had not brought back more dignity with him. At the Presbyterian Church, Shannon, yesterday, Frank, second son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Burge, Hastings, was married to Linase Catherine, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Olsen, Shannon. The happy couple were the recipients of many handsome and useful presents, including cheques. After the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. J. A. Pawelka’s escape has been the subject of practical jokes. The Mayor of Palmerston received a request to place a large scroll, which he possesses, with the words, “Welcome to Palmerston,” over the entrance of the town. Others forwarded a telegram to “J. Pawelka, care of Police Department, Wellington,” asking them to kindly advise when he might be expected, with a view to a municipal welcome. There is still a feeling that Pawelka is likely to make for Palmerston, and all approaches to the town are being watched, but it would be quite easy to come in by the river bed and ranges. On the last occasion Pawelka came up to Palmerston in a goods truck. He is still at large.
