HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union was held at Eevin on Wednesday evening. Present : Messrs Proctor (chairman), Kaurauti, Easther and Burge (secretary). The Wellington Union wrote suggesting the 19th September for the junior representative match, but the secretary reported he had written back saying that that date would not be suitable, and asking for a later date. The question as to whether the match should be played on a Wednesday was then considered. The secretary suggested that it they arranged a Saturday match for Wellington, they could arrange one for Wednesday with Palmers-ton-North, thus giving the College a chance to play their two matches. The secretary moved that Wellington be asked to fix a Saturday, and that Palmerston North be invited to send their juniors to ’ Devin on a Wednesday for preference. The chairman seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Some comment has been caused in connection with Reid’s absence from the Palmerston North match, and in this connection the following letter was received from Mr Wanklyn, of Foxton : —“I wish to state that in connection with Reid’s non-attendance at Palmerston on Saturday, and the absence of excuse for same, was entirely my fault. Reid asked me on the Friday preceding the match to be sure to notify Mr Whibley, so that he could communicate with you. I told him I would attend to the matter, but regret to say that I completely overlooked it until a few minutes to three. I was then informed by Mr Whibley that the match was timed to start at 2.45, and consequently too late to be of use. On the motion of Mr Easther it was decided to hand the letter to the senior selector. The New Zealand Rugby Football Union forwarded the following notification : —Please note the following disqualifications confirmed by this Union : Otago Union, R. Young, till end of June, 1912, for fighting on the field ; Wanganui Union, C. Hogg, till July 31st, 1912, for using bad language and refusing to obey the releree; Southland Union, A. Dickson, for life, for striking a referee.
In connection with the LevinFoxton match, in dispute, the referee who controlled the match was in attendance, and after hearing his evidence it was decided on the motion of Mr Faster, seconded by Mr Burge, that the evidence before the meeting proves that the allegation that the referee did not warn certain players for wasting time is contrary to facts. Mr W. R. Burge was appointed manager of the Horowhenua portion of the representative team which is to play at Paimerston North on Wednesday next.
