BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING,

A special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night to finally deal with tenders for the supply of a gas engine and dynamo for the Coronation Town Hall. There were present, His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.), and Councillors Coley, Carter, Chrystall, Gibbs, Greig, Rimmer, Speirs and Stewart. Mr John Ross was also in attendance to give advice. Tenders from several firms were read, and after a lengthy discussion Cr Gibbs moved, and Cr Coley seconded, that the tender of Messrs Kirkland and Martin be accepted, provided the contractors will give a brake test demonstration showing that the engine will give off with Foxton gas the equivalent of 16 horse power with 700 b.t.u., and that Mr John Ross be asked to draw up the necessary conditions and confer with Mr Kirkland and the Mayor and Crs Coley, Greig and Gibbs. As an amendment, Cr Speirs moved, and Cr Carter seconded, that the tender of Messrs Turnbull and Jones tor supply of engine as specified be accepted. On being put, the amendment was lost and the motion was carried. There was no other business, and the meeting rose at 8.30 p.m.
