HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Horowheuua Rugby Union was held at Levin last night. Present; Messrs Proctor (chairman). Easther, Burge aud Whibley.
A letter was read from the Wanganui Rugby Union advising that September 9th was the first available date for rep. match, and asking if that date would be suitable for Horowhenna to send its team to Wanganui. It was pointed out that the senior clubs contest would not be completed for another six weeks, aud it was not advisable to play any further rep. matches until the contest had been decided. After some discussion it was decided that further consideration of the Wanganui Union’s letter be held over until the next meeting of the Committee.
It was decided on the motion of Mr Burge, seconded by Mr Proctor, that the junior rep. team be sent to Wellington this year, and that the Wellington Union be asked to suggest a suitable date. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that the following disqualifications had been confirmed : —Southland, T. Baird, until end of season 1911 tor using insulting remarks to a referee ; Hawke’s Bay, T. Fox and C. Sayers until December 31st, 1911, ior bad conduct after a match ; Marlborough, C. Harvey, until end of season 1911 lor striking an opponent. An application from the Taiimi Club to have Frank Cootes reclassified as a junior was refused. Accounts amounting to £‘S 17s 3d were passed for payment. Dr Adams, a senior referee under the jurisdiction of the Union, aud a spectator at the Levin-Wauderer-Foxton match which is in dispute, wrote objecting to that portion of the referee’s report which stated that he had occasion to repeatedly warn the Foxtou players for lagging and killing time during the progress of the match. Dr Adams contended that no warning was given, aud that in his opinion no time was wasted by the Foxtou players. Mr Rore Pitihira, captain of the Foxton senior team, was in attendance, and stated that the referee never warned him about his team wasting time. During the match the referee had told him that if any appealing was necessary it was to be done by him (Rore). He did not heat the referee warn any individual player. It may have been possible for the referee to warn a player without be (Rore) hearing the warning, but he did not think so. He was playing five-eighth. After some discussion it was decided that the appeal Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Uuiou, to whom the appeal had been seeut, be asked to deter consideration ot same until further evidence had been sent in by the Horowheuua Union. It was also resolved that the referee in question be asked to attend the next meeting of the committee for the purpose of giving evidence.
