The sequel to a recent case in which a young woman was sent to gaol at Wellington for 21 days for exposing her child in a manner likely to injure its health, but who was released three days later in consequence of a strong public agitation, was heard before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, when Thomas Wells was adjudged the lather of the child. Counsel lor defendant stated his client bad offered to marry the gifl, and would do so now if she was willing. He was not an unmitigated scoundrel as some people had hela him out to be.
