LOST IN THE BUSH.
Wairoa, July 29. Four men named Robinson, Townsend, Higgins and Baker left Wairekei station with the intention of walking to Rotorua. They got lost in the bush, and for four days Jived on berries. They managed to reach the head of Waikaremoana, 30 miles from the Take House, on Sunday morning, and built a raft, as three of them were sailors, Higgins and Baker embarked on the raft to cross the lake, but Robinson and Townsend decided to walk. Robinson and Townsend reached Take House this morning, but there are no tidings of the men on the raft. It is feared they have been lost. The lake was very rough at the time. Search parties are now out. Wairoa, July 31. News was received this morning that Higgins and Baker were discovered by the Maoris, and were in a feeble condition. They were taken ashore to a pa and cared for. But for the timely discovery they must have died as the weather was bitterly cold on the lake.
