SATURDAY’S RESULTS. Senior. Foxton 12 v. Shannon o. Hui Mai 9 v. Levin-W., 3Junior. Weraroa o v. Tainui o. FOXTON v. SHANNON. This match was played on the local racecourse on Saturday, but there was not a great amount of interest evinced in it by local followers of rugby. The reason of this, no doubt, was that the result was looked upon as foregone conclusion. Shannon arrived just before three o’clock, but the game was not commenced until almost half past three. After a few minutes play the ball burst and the game had to be stopped until another ball was obtained. This resulted in a delay of almost half-an-hour and consequently the latter part of the second spell was played in semi-darkness. The game was not a brilliant one, being lor the most part little better than a scramble. Foxton forwards easily beat their opponents in the open, but in the tight the majority of them dodged the hard graft. The Shannon hookers invariably got possession of the ball, but owing to the bad formation of their scrum it seldom, if ever, came out cleanly.' The Foxton backs indulged in a fair amount of passing, but owing to their not running straight and also on account of erratic passing very little headway was made. Shannon kicked off and play hovered near the centre of the field where the whistle sounded for an infringement and it was found that the ball had burst. After a delay of almost halt-an-hour another ball was obtained and from the scrum Foxton worked play well into Shannon 25’s where another scrum was ordered. The ball came out to Cook who transferred to Rore who dodged through the opposing backs and touched down. Haeaua failed with the kick. Foxton 3 Shannon o. Fiom the kick out Shannon touk play into Foxtou’s territory, out. it did not remain there long. Rushes up and down the field followed and a little later from a forward scramble the ball went over the line and Martin dropped on it. Haeana’s kick was a failure. Foxton 6 —Shannon o. For the rest of the spell the play was of an even nature and both sides went very near scoring on several occasions. In the second spell the local team had far the best of the play and put on two additional tries. The first was the result of a fine forward rush, headed by Reid, which took play from one end of the field to the other, Robinson touching down. Haeana’s kick at goal failed. The only other score was by Dunn who look a return by Shannon’s full-back at top speed, and outpacing his opponents, scored in a good position. Haeana was right off colour and again failed to add the major points. The whistle sounded with the score Foxton 12 —Shannon 0. Mr J. Desmond refereed and gave every satisfaction, HUI MAI v. LEVIN.

More than usual interest was manitested in the Hui Mai v. Eevin-Wanderers game. From a spectator’s point ol view the match was disappointing, there being little or no concerted play by either side. Playing with the wind Eeviu commenced the attack. No concerted play was indulged in, the efforts being mainly individual. Eevin attacked and were awarded a free kick for Whareo tripping. Nepia Winiata was entrusted with the kick and landed a beautiful goal. Again Eeviu returned to the Hui Mai 25, but were repeatedly driven back by the beautiful line kicking of the visitors. Eventually Bob George headed a fine rush down the field, and a Eevin forward being off-side gave Hui Mai a chance to equalise the scores. Martin took the kick, which was just touched by Saxon, otherwise it would have found the uprights. From this out to the end of the spell Eevin maintained their lead of three points. On the change of ends it soon. became evident that the home side would have to make a change of tactics if it was to have a chance to win. The Plui Mai forwards swarmed down on the line and maintained a hot attack. Eventually the ball went over the line, and Marton picking up punted for touch. The ball in its flight touched a Hui Mai player, and George taking the ball appealed for a mark. The Eevin players waited tor the whiscle to blow and allowed George to run in unopposed. The kick at goal by Martin failed. With the scores even Hui Mai infused even more dash into their play, and swept everything before them. A smart mark by W, Bevan gave Martin another attempt at goal. The ball was piloted sately between the uprights. Again Hui Mai attacked and Jacob, snapping up the leather, scored by the posts. Ned Bevan failed with the kick. There was no further score and the game ended Hui Mai 9, Eeviu Wanderers 3, On the resumption of play in the second spell Arcus had the misfortune to break a finger, and had to retire, the home team playing the spell through with 14 men. Mr W. JR.. Burge refereed. TAINUI v. WERAROA. The only junior game played on Saturday was between Weraroa and Tainui. The game was

closely and evenly contested and ended in a scoreless draw. At times good exhibitions were given on both sides. Mr Parata refereed. HOROWHENUA v. MANAWATU. THE HOROWHENUA TEAM. Mr R.
