A CHINESE TRAGEDY.

Says the Wanganui Chronicle : Those of our readers who knew Mr Ngau For (lor many years proprietor of the market garden at Aramoho, and better known as Kwoug Chong), will regret to hear ol a terrible calamity which has recently befallen him and his family. Only a few months ago, Mr and Mrs For left the Dominion to spend a prolonged holiday in China, taking with them their three children —two boys, 4 and 2 years old respectively, and an infant girl. They arrived in Canton in April, making their home in a village about fourteen miles out of the city. On May 21st (Mr T. H. Rix informs us), at miduighi, their home was attacked by a ruffianly mob of 70 or So men, presumably with the object ol plundering. In his attempts to resist the attack, Mr For was shot in the leg and disabled, the house was ransacked and robbed, and his two little boys carried off captives. Mrs For pursued the mob in order to regain possession of her children, when she was fatally shot and died a lew hours afterwards. Those who knew Mr and Mrs For here speak most highly of them and their many good qualities, and deeply sympathise with Mr For in his sad and untimely bereavement.
