RACING COMMISSION.
A petition was being handed round Levin yesterday in favour of calling a meeting of burgesses at an early date, says last night’s Horowhenua Chronicle, lor the purpose of discussing the Racing Commissioners’ report in connection with the Levin racecourse. It is being extensively signed, and the promoters of the petition in every case met with the cordial approval of the citizens. One resident, who is not particularly interested in the racecourse as a racecourse, remarked to a Chronicle reporter that the barring ot the course meant the annulling of the Levin A. and F. Association’s yearly shows. This, he said, would be a very serious thing for the town. He also pointed out that the Commissioners’ report sounded the death knell of the Levin Amateur Sporting Club. The idea of those promoting the petition is to organise a big deputation, to the Minister tor the Interior, that will be representative of the Racing Club, the A. and P. Association, the Amateur Athletic Club, and any other public body that may be interested iu the preservation ol the present racecourse.
