SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. Senior. —Levin v. Tainui, at Otaki. Mr J. Freeman. Foxton v. Hui Mai, at Foxton. Dr Adams. Shannon a bye, No junior matches. The senior match, Hui Mai v. Foxton, to be played on the local racecourse on Saturday should be one of the best matches of the season. Both clubs will be represented by very strong fifteens and both are equally confident of success. The game will commence at 2.45 p.tn. Price of admission, one shilling. HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union was held at Levin last night. Present: —Messrs J. W. Proctor (chairman), Karauti, McMillan, Easther, Whibley and Burge (secretary). Leave of absence was granted to Mr King! Tahiwi. The secretary of the Hui Mai Club applied to have C. Peri transferred from the Foxton juniors to Hui Mai juniors.—lt was decided to inform the Hui Mai Club that as Peri had already played for Foxton this season a transfer could not be granted. Mr Burge, referee in the Wera-roa-Koputaroa match, reported having ordered W. Perry, of the Koputaroa team, off the field for obstruction. The referee said that in the early part of the game be had occasion to caution Perry and another player for obstructing and then stated that the next offender would be ordered off. Subsequently Perry collared a man who did not have the ball and he ordered him off. The “barracking” of the spectators was of a very strenuous nature and it was necessary to be very strict, otherwise he would have lost control of the players. Perry was in attendance and stated that when he collared the man he was under the impression that he had the ball. Mr McMillan referred to the “barracking” of the spectators, which, he said, was very bad. The “barracking” was done in Maori and was very much worse than the usual run of “barracking. If the Union had the power he considered action should be taken to put a stop to such conduct. After some discussion it was decided on the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mr Karauti, that Perry be severely cautioned. An appeal was recived from the Foxton Club against the Levin-Wanderers-Foxton match, played on the 24th instant, being counted as a win for Wanderers, on the ground that the referee after a force down by Wanderers did not allow sufficient time for the Foxton players to get back into their positions before the ball was dropped out. —On the motion of Mr Whibley seconded by Mr Burge, it was decided that the appeal be dealt with at the next meeting of the Union. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote advising that the tour of the North Island Country team would occupy from 14 to 18 days from the last week in July. The Manawatu Rugby Union wrote asking that a “rep” match be arranged for Levin on July Bth. Also that the Horowhenua Union appoint a committee to meet a committee from the Manawatu Union to discuss the question of amalgamation for big “rep” fixtures. It was decided to agree to the date suggested for “rep” match. The committee to meet the Manawatu Union on the question of amalgamation will be appointed on that date. Members of the committee expressed the opinion that as far as possible Horowhenua should play “rep” fixtures “on their own.” Frank Cootes and Jacob Haputa were registered as members of the Hui Mai Club. The secretary of the Hui Mai Club applied to have the disqualification imposed on J. Martin removed. After some discussion it was decided that no action be taken. An application was received from Nepia and Walter Winiata for permission to play with the Native team, which is shortly to tour New Zealand under the management of Mr W. T. Parata. Mr Proctor moved and Mr Easther seconded, that the permission asked for be refused. Speaking to the motion Mr Proctor said that if permission were granted in cases of this kind it would be the means of breaking up club football and ai»o greatly weaken the representative team. Mr Easther was of opinion that the Native team was a semi-pro-fessional one and tours of the kind ought not to be encouraged. Again, the other members of the team should be considered as by allowng two or three men to go on tour might be the means of breaking «p a team and preventing the other Twelve or thirteen from playing iootball at all. Mr Whibley opposed the motion. If players were showing such good form as to be selected in teams of this kind, he did not think the Union should stand in their way by refusing permission. It was not fair to the players. The motion on being put was carried, Messrs Karauti and Whibley dissenting. Accounts amounting to ,£4 19s were passed for payment and the meeting rose.
