A BUSH TRAGEDY.

Perth, June 25. Another bush tragedy is reported. Three timber getters, named Smith, Butler and Wake, were camped at Kellerberrin. Smith quarrelled with the others and left. Later on he returned to the camp, where Butler was preparing dinner, and struck him on the head with a mattock, knocking him into the fire. A fourth man tried to pull Butler out, but Smith struck him and forced him to desist, though not seriously injuring him. Search discovered Wake in the bush with his head terribly battered. Butler and Wake were removed to the Northam hospital, but neither is expected to recover. Smith carried his mattock to the police station and surrendered. Perth, July 26, Butler has succumbed to his injuries. Smith was apparently demented.
