SATURDAY’S RESUDTS. Seniok. Devin-W., 9 v. Foxton 8. Tainui 23 v. Shannon 5. Junior. Weraroa 6 v. Koputaroa 0. Hui Mai 24 v. College 3. Tainui won by default from Foxton. DEVIN-WANDERERS v. FOXTON. This match took place at Devin on Saturday. Play for the greater part of the game was of an extremely uninteresting nature, but during the last quarter of an hour Devin rose to the occasion and played with splendid dash. Foxton won the toss, and Walter Winiata kicked off against the sun. Foxton kept Devin penned in their 25 for some time, Hopa forcing down for Devin. Play drifted to neutral territory, and for a home player being offside Foxton was awarded a free kick at half-way, the b?ll going out in the Devin 25. Nepia Winiata mulled the ball bady, and a scrum resulted in front of the Devin goal. Foxton got the leather, but Pitahira knocking on, spoilt a certain score, Doose play followed in the Devin 25, and Pitahira took a mark in a good position, but Furrie’s kick was a poor one. Foxton continued to attack, and a scrum was formed on the Devin goal line. Nothing eventuated, and the ball went from end to end. Devin then made a serious attempt on the visitors defence. Dester got the ball and passed to Martin, who passed to Heta, from Heta again to Marton, who transferred the ball to Nepia who failed to take the ball. Play centred in the Foxton 25. A free kick to Foxton brought play back to midfield again. End to end play followed, Foxton having the better of the exchanges. Subsequently a free kick fell to Devin at halfway, and Walter Winiata kicked the ball out of touch close to the Foxton goal line. Then Pitahira headed a loose rush down the field where Royal made a speculator at the ball, Nepia just saving in the nick of time. Play up to this stage was poor, but Hopa enlivened the proceedings with one of his characteristic dashes up the field, finding the line near the Foxton 25, where he took a smart mark a few minutes later. Royal led a rush right up Devin line, where a good kick saved. The pressure was maintained by the visitors, and half-time found Devin very severely taxed. On the resumption the ball was kept in Devin territory for a time. At the 25 Foxton took a free kick, and Walter Winiata received the ball and booted well down the field, and eventually a lucky try resulted. Nepia Winiata failed to convert. Dater Hopa got the ball in the Devin 25, and in taking the leather down the line came into collision with Furrie, both players being hurled to the ground. Play was suspended for a few minutes. The play began to liven up a little, Nepia infusing some dash into the proceedings, but Foxton held their own well. From a fast rush down field Robinson scored a try for the visitors, and Raehena converted. The scores thus stood ; Foxton 5 —Devin 3. Roused by this reverse the home team made an invasion into the Foxton territory, Tim Close heading the dash. The effort, however, was only spasmodic, play soon returning to the Devin end. Stevenson secured another try but he failed at goal. Foxton B—Devin8 —Devin 3. Devin now played up with great dash, and gave an exhibition of the good old form. From a vigorous attack Heta scored, but the resulting kick failed. Foxton B—Devin 6. Excitement ran high, and Devin repeatedly got near the visitors goal line. Just belore the whistle blew Nepia got a splendid try, which was not fructified, but it placed Devin with 9 points against Foxton’s 8. Mr J. Smith refereed.

TAINUI v. SHANNON. This match was played on the Shannon ground and resulted in an easy victory for the visitors. Soon after the kick-off the ball was kept for some considerable time in the vicinity of Tainui goal, but owing to the lack of cohesion amongst the Shannon players they failed to secure a try. Tainui, by some smart passing and a swift dodgy run by P. Rawiri, secured a try, and a goal was kicked by H. Rawiri. The Shanuouites were not dispirited by this, as they soon had the ball in the vicinity of the Tainui goalline. This was entirely due to the smart runs of Healy, who, when collared never could find a comrade to pass on the leather to. At last Mowbray, whether by accident or design, was in a convenient spot and carried *Fe ball over the line and secured a try, which Hickson converted into a goal. The scores were now even, but this did not last long, as the Tainui boys, by a succession of brilliant passes and a speedy run by Henri, secured a try. Then followed a goal kicked by Ashton. Shannon again made desperate efforts to get even, the ball for the remainder or the spell being kept in the Tainui end ; Healy, Hickson, Timms and “good old ’’ Gobo doing the graft, while the others were anywhere and everywhere but the right place. When time was called for the first spell the score stood : Tainui xo, Shannon 5, During the second spell Tainui scored a goal from a free kick and shortly after Bevan secured a try, which Henri converted. The Shannon-

ites, although worsted in play, showed good spirit, Healy again distinguishing himself. This time he was well backed by Hickson, Dalzell, Osborne and Timms. “ Good old ” Gobo was showing signs of distress, and no wonder ; he had done all that a footballer could do to avert disaster. The ball was again in the Tainui quarters within a few inches of the line, but that all necessary factor in football was lacking, viz., combination. Tainui at last was extricated from the perilous position and a well-timed run secured a try, a goal following. This brought the game to a close, Tainui winning by 23 points to 5. Mr Freeman, of Waikanae, acted as referee. WERAROA v. KOPUTAROA. An interesting game eventuated on the Weraroa ground, the home team eventually winning by a margin of 6 points. In the first spell from a scrum near Koputaroas line Pringk secured the ball and touched do u. The s ore in the seconu sp was the result of a visiting back passing the ball near the line which was pounced upon by Rangi. During the second spell a Koputaroa player named Perry was ordered off the field for obstruction. Mr Burge refereed. HUI MAI v. CODDEGE. This was more interesting than the score would indicate. The College boys put up a good fight, but the visitors were far heavier and more experienced, and beat them in all departments. College scored in the first three minutes, then Hui Mai piled on 24 points. Tries were scored by Nees (3), Gardiner, W. Davies and J. Davies, and three were converted. On the day’s showing Hui Mai should have a good chance for the junior championship. Mt Thomas refereed. TAINUI v. FOXTON, Foxton failed to get a team away to Devin and Tainui thus won by default. On Saturday the local seniors will meet Hui Mai on the racecourse. The game will commence at 2.45 p.m., and the price of admission is one shilling. Foxton will be represented by the following ; Osboldstone Furrie Shamrock Dunn Rore Stevenson W. Robinson Royal Martin Joe Beaton Reihana Reid Haeana Bowe
