PRINCE OF WALES.
THE ORDER OF THE GARTER. AN IMPOSING CEREMONY. London, June n. The ceremony of investing the Prince of Wales with the Order of the Garter took place yesterday. Knights aud officers 01 the Order assembled at Waterloo Chamber and were thence summoned to the Throne room, where King George, Queen Mary, King Manuel, the Duke of Connaught, Prince Arthur of Connaught, and Prince Christian were seated at the head of the table. The scene was one of great beauty aud interest. The Duke and Duchess of Connaught led in the Prince ol Wales, and the King proceeded to buckle ou the Garter.
The Prelate pronounced the customary admonition, aud the King, having invested the Prince with the insignia of the Order, gave him the accolade.
The other Knights present congratulated the Prince, who bore himself, in the trying ordeal, with dignity. The procession to St. George’s Chapel followed. The Duke ot Argyll aud Lord Esher led the military Knights of Windsor, twenty-three Knights Companions, heralds and officers of the Household, aud moved iu stately fashion between a double line of Lifeguards and Coldstream Guards.
Windsor Castle was crowded with spectators to witness the pageant, which has not been seen since the time ol Charles 11. The Royal Knights accompanied the Prince. Four train bearers, clad in scarlet, held the robes of the King aud Queen, who walked hand in hand, Mary wearing the insignia presented to her by the Maries of the Empire.
