Owing to an error in the drawing up of the fixtures it has been necessary to alter the meeting of several teams. Koputuaroa v. Weraroa, at Werearoa, Mr D. Musgrove. HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Management Committee of tue Horowhenua Rugby Union was held in Levin on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs J. Proctor (chairman), McMillan, Easther and Burge (secretary). The following letter was received from Mr J. I. Avery. Hon. Secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union: —At the annual meeting ot this union the delegates instructed the Management Committee to carry into effect the .’ecummeudation submitted in respect to matches for representative country players. With a view to this, I will be obliged it you will kindly forward to me not later than the 17th prox. the names of players which your Union considers most worthy of consideration, and as there might be an either forwards or backs, please state at the same time, including those already mentioned, the names of three backs and three forwards, with particulars as to qualifications and weights, in order of preference. The teams will consist ot players as under :—North Island ; Three men each from the unions of South Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay, Mauawatu and Wairarapa, and two men each from the unions of Bay of Plenty, Horowhenua and Bush districts. South Island : Four men from the unions of West Coast, Bullet, Nelson, Marlborough and South Canterbury. It is proposed to play matches with the North Island team &t Auckland, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Wellington, and with the South Island team at Invercargill, Dunedin and Christchurch, both the teams to play a North v. South country teams match at Wellington, when the selectors appointed in connection with the annual North v. South match will be requested to attend. After receipt of your nominations I will advise you as to the intentions of the committee in regard to selection and probable dates of matches. On the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mr Easther, it was left in the secretary’s hands to obtain the names from the selector.
On the application of the secretary of the Foxton Club the following players were re-instated as juniors ; —F. Robinson, P. Tuohy, W. Cook and E. Saville.
The secretary reported that Mr Moyuihau had telephoned to say he would not be able to be present at the meeting. The Chairman said that Mr Moynihan should forfeit his seat on the committee. It was no good having a man on the committee if he only attended only one meeting out of seven. It was decided that Mr Moynihau forfeit his seat on the committee, and Mr Whibley, of Foxton, was appointed to fill the vacancy.
Mr W. R. Burge, referee in the junior match, Tainui v. VVeraroa, played on Saturday, reported having ordered off the field Hetariki, of the Weraroa team, and Winterburn, of the Tainui team for tripping opponents. Mr Hetariki was present and stated that the tripping was purely accidental and the committee decided to take no further action. Winterburn did not put in an appearance, although notice to attend the meeting had been sent to him. After hearing the referee’s statement it was decided to suspend Winterburn for four playing Saturdays. In reference to the complaint from Mr Smith, referee in the match Shannon v. Eevin, as to conduct ot Timms and S. Cootes on the field of play—Timms for disputing and heckling and Cootes for stating that he would stand the referee on the line. —It was decided that Timms be suspended for two playing Saturdays, and Cootes for four playing Saturdays.
A letter was received from Mr C. Cribb, hon. secretary of the Awarua sub-union, asking the secretary to place before the Union the matter of a return match with the Awarua sub-union reps., which was owing since 1910, and asking lor a date. A visit of a
junior rep. team from the Horowhenua Union would also be welcomed by his union. The secretary was instructed to inform Mr Cribb that a visit would be paid his union this year if it were possible to do so, more definite information would be supplied later.
