HIMITANGI.
The annual social in connection with the Hituitangi Methodist Sunday School took place last evening in the school-house, when there was a very good attendance, the school being nicely tilled. The Rev. T. Coalsworth presided, and congratulated the school upon its successful year, and trusted that the new year would be one of even greater blessing. During the evening the children, who had been trained by Miss Thompson, gave in a very pleasing manner the service of song entitled “Teddy’s Button,” the connective readings being given effectively by Sister Moody Bell. Recitations were given by Eddy and Bert Algar, and the prizes were then distributed to the children. Mr Thompson, jnr., who had until recently charge of the school, removed tolanother district, and as a parting gift to the children, he presented them with some beautiful Bibles and Testaments. These were also given to them last evening, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Thompson for his very kind and thoughtful gift. The balance-sheet showed a small balance in hand on the year’s working. A short address was given by the chairman on “Books.” Refreshments were then handed round. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Thompson who now has charge of the school, for her untiring efforts on behalf of the children. The Benediction brought a pleasant and successful gathering to a close.
