MEXICAN REVOLUTION.
REBEL ACTIVITY. MEXICO CITY, May 14. A state of siege prevails hero. An attack is expected, although it is believed that no rebels arc anywhere in the neighbourhood. Troops arc watching the suburbs. An army of 2000 rebels captured Acapulco on May 8. The small garrison, although aided by the guns of a Federal cruiser, wero overpowered. The rebels have organised tho States of Sonora and Chihuahua, under General Madero’s presidency, appoining State Governors, and establishing garrisons. It is reported that, the Foderals, in retreating to Aguapieta, shelled two villages, killing many inhabitants. DIAZ OBDURATE. MEXICO CITY, May 14. It is stated officially that Dictator Diaz refuses to resign the Presidency while the country is in its present state of unrest. When peace is restored ho will resign, and if tho rebels will not receive such a declaration nothing further will bs done in the direction of peace. AMERICA’S ATTITUDE. WASHINGTON, May 14. The United States docs not propose to interrupt legitimate commerce with tho Mexican States, now in tho hands of the rebels, but with a view to preserving American neutrality all trans-frontier shipments will bo carefully examined. Cabinet is still undecided as to whether to rceogniso tho belligerency of the rebels.
TROUBLE IN REBEL CAMP. MEXICO CITY, May 14. Reports from Jaurez state that the rebel generals Orozco and Madero have quarrelled. The former tried to arrest tho latter, who defied him. The insurrectionists took sides and a conflict was threatened. Peace, however, w'as restored. It is believed that the dispute involved the life of Navarro, the Federal General. who was secretly sent to El Paso by the order of Madero. Navarro was suspected of cruelty in previous battles. The rebels have occupied Cananca and Sonora, and threaten Nogales.
