EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE.
It was unfortunate tor the Bowling Club’s euchre party and dance that rain tell heavily last uight ; nevertheless the fact that forty couples took the floor at the Masonic Hall may be considered as fairly satisfactory. The function was very enjoyable, all arrangements being of the best. The floor was in good order, and Mr Berthold presided at the piano in his usual musiciauly style. An extra was played by Miss F. Kdwards. The M’s.C. duties were capably carried out by Messrs H. Witchell and F. Woods. During the supper interval Mr A. Jeuks rendered a song that was well received. Twenty tables were engaged tor euchre. Of the ladies, Mrs Hunt ami Miss Stagpoole tied for first place, and Mrs Hunt won on the play oil; the “ booby ” prize went to Miss M. Wanklyu. Mr F. Davis won the first prize for gentlemen, Mr S. Dudsou the second, and Mr R. Bright the “booby.” An interesting feature of the tournament was that an equal number of ladies and gentlemen took part, each having a partner ot the opposite sex. For the success ot the whole affair much credit is due to the secretary of the Club (Mr H. Witchell), as well as to the ladies’ committee, composed of Mesdames Petrie, Nye, Adams, Witchell, Boyes, Greig, Park.es, Hamer, Woods, A. Ross, and Misses Speirs (2), and Ross (.secretary). As a pleasant outcome of the gathering, a number ot children are being entertained by the ladies in the Presbyterian Sunday School Hall this afternoon.
