BARTON BROS.’ CIRCUS.

Barton’s Circus is advertised to appear at Foxton on Tuesday next, May 9th. This is the first visit of the circus to this district, but it comes with good credentials, aud recently showed in Palmerston for four nights. Speaking ot a performance at Napier a contemporary says; —“The programme presented was a very good one, containing a very wide variety of items, consequently it met with undoubted approval from all sections ot the big audience. Barton Bros, could easily rely on giving satisfaction when arranging their performance, as many of the turns, besides being novel, are of a big order of merit. Among the most notable features of last night’s programme was the high jumping of a greyhound. This dog cleared a height of 13ft. eiu., and this apparently with ease. The musical Weatherleys contributed one of the most enjoyable turns. In addition to skilfully manipulating numerous strange instruments, the Weatherleys indulge in a certain amount of comic patter which delighted the audience. Miss Marguerite, bare-back rider and wire walker, gave a clever performance, aud met with a good reception. Warren Bros, contributed a clean acrobatical display, generally known as the “ Comedy Billiard Table.” Other items were given by Little Lindsay (a clever child contortionist), Tybell Bros, (trapeze artists), and Master Roy Barton (bounding jockey). Buck-jump-ing by an Australian black, a ladder act by Cocoa aud Chico, aud numerous riding performances were all ot equal interest. The Weatherley Sisters (serio comics), several clowns of the usual variety, and a steeplechase by local liders completed an excellent programme. The baud played very suitable music for each item. During the evening the audience were not slow in showing their appreciation.” A special engagement has been made of the Pedro Bros., atrial performers, just back from Africa, aud late of Pagel’s Circus.
