FOOTBALL.
PROPOSAL TO MERGE THE SUB-UNION INTO HOROWHENUA UNION. The Foxton district possesses some fine footballers, but unless the district is merged into either the Manawatu or Horovvheuua Unions the good old game will not progress. Some excellent matches have been played in the past between the Albion and Awahou Clubs, but the competitions, when so limited, lack public interest, and are calculated to engender illfeeling between the players. Local players want to come into touch with outside clubs, but the local sub-union’s boundaries are too limited for this. Shannon and Levin are in the Horowhenua Union, and to compete in the Manawatu competitions at Palmerston is out of the question. The only way out of the difficulty and to galvanise local football into newness of life is to abolish the present sub-union and tor Foxton to be merged into Horowhenua. We believe this step would meet with approval by both local clubs. At a meeting of the Horowhenua Union last night, this subject was mentioned, and Mr Hoben, of the Manawatu Union, said he would raise no objection to portion ot the Foxton sub-union being merged into the Horowhenua Union. In order to stir up local enthusiasm in the matter, Messrs Fowler and Procter will come to Foxton on Saturday night and discuss the position with local footballers, in the Hkrau) office, at 7.30 p.m. These delegates are anxious that football in Foxtou should not be allowed to die, and are desirous to resuscitate it by [defining new boundaries lor Horowhenua and Manawatu. We hope every enthusiast will endeavour to be present in order that some definite understanding will be arrived at and greater interest infused into local football.
