A correspondent asks the Yorkshire Observer tor a translation of the following passage, which (he says) he has copied from a report of a base-ball match iu a New York paper: “Ferris was a bit grochy at himself, and immediately on his first appearance iu the following chapter smashed the pellet to the right centre for the circuit. Stalling wriggled his toe iu vain till the lucky seventh. Then his right-hand wollopers cut loose with a vengeance. Hit or surprise followed in quick succession, until Rube picked up a peck of gravel iu his eye in fielding a mean bunt, and with the gravel went the goat. . . After Stephens and Waddell boosted to Engel in succession. Hartzell took it upon his own shoulders to really do something. His swat would have been a pie for the crouching Austin, but here Tabasco butted in gallantly and spilled the beans.”
