FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL. Pursuant to section 2 of "The Local Elections and Polls Act, igoß.” ~|~ HEREBY give notice that ADAMS, George Joseph COLEY, George Charles CARTER, Walter Stevens CHRYSTALL, John GIBBS, Albert John GREIG, Harry LITTLEJOHN, Merwn PARKES, Robert Mathew RIMMER, Thomas STEWART, Washington Smith SPEIRS, Alexander W OODROOFE, George Thomas were duly nominated as candidates for the office of Councillor for the Borough of Foxton, and as the number of candidates exceeds the vacancies to be filled, I hereby publicly notify that an Election will take place for nine Councillors, in the Council Chamber, on Wednesday the 26th day of April, 1911. Polling hours from Q a.m. to 7 p.m. Dated this 20th day of April, 1911. ALE. FRASER, Returning Officer. MUNICIPAL ELECTION, TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies & gentlemen.— I beg to announce myself as a candidate for seats on the Borough Council and Harbour Board at the forthcoming election, I hope that my services as Councillor dining the past two years have met with your approval, and should you again honour me with your confidence I shall continue to further the interests of the Borough to the best of my ability. If elected to a seat on the Foxton Harbour Board I shall use my best endeavours to acquire the wharf, as the present dual control means a serious loss of revenue to the Board and leads to confusion and faulty administration. To provide money to acquire the wharf I would recommend raising a loan and to prescribe a rating area between Levin and Feilding, over which a rate would be struck to provide security for same. Ido not think there would be any likelihood of calling up a rate. Improvements to the river and bar to ensure steamers negotiating the entrance at all tides and so inspire merchants’ confidence in the port as a distributing centre. Setting aside a portion of the foreshore as a public swimming baths under the jurisdiction of the Borough Council. To make Te Wharangi an attractive seaside resort and so strengthen the Board’s finances and increase Foxtou’s prosperity. Yours faithfully, A. J. GIBBS. WEDNESDAY’S ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies & gentlemen : I beg to announce myself as a candidate for seats on the Borough Council and Foxton Harbour Board. If re-elected as a Councillor I will always do my best for the advancement of the Borough. In soliciting your support as a Harbour Board candidate I would point out that the progress of the port means a great deal to Foxton and it is essential that Foxton’s representatives should be thoroughly conversant with the affairs of the Borough. Having served two years on the local Borough Council I have a thorough knowledge of its affairs and should therefore be well fitted to represent the electors. Again I have large interests in the town and would naturally do all in my power to push it ahead in any way possible,, My platform in connection with Harbour Board matters is as follows(1) Acquiring the wharf from the Railway Department at the earliest possible moment at a sum to be mutually agreed upon by the Board and Government. (2) Creating a harbour rating area in order to provide security for a loan for such purpose. (3) Hire or purchase of dredge for systematic dredging of the bar to facilitate shipping, thus making the port what it should be : the most important distributing centre on this Coast. (4) Setting aside a portion of the foreshore as a public swimming baths. Yours Faithfully, THOMAS RIMMER. MUNICIPAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. Ladies & gentlemen. I have the honour to announce myself as a candidate for a seat on the Borough Council. The question of water and drainage will again come up for consideration during the term of the incoming Council, and as it is a matter which deeply concerns all citizens I feel that they are fairly entitled to have the views of candidates before voting. Briefly, I believe water and drainage are essential to the safety and good sanitation of the Borough and the health and comfort of its residents. If elected, I will do all in my power to assist in evolving a scheme which will provide an efficient service at a cost consistent with the resources of the Borough. I am, etc., HARRY GREIG.
